Magnesium has a high driving potential and is low on the noble scale which makes it a highly effective and economical solution for CP.

Magnesium bare anode is usually made into two types with different electro-potential (relative to Cu/CuSO4 reference electrode):

1. High Potential (HP) magnesium anode (-1.70V)
2. Standard Potential (H-1) magnesium anode (-1.50V)

Magnesium anodes are used predominately onshore in relatively high resistivity soil and water.

High potential magnesium anodes have a high open circuit voltage and high driving potential than standard potential magnesium anodes. This yields more current output and achieves a greater efficiency in reaching a cathodic protection level with a lower consumption of the anodes.   High potential magnesium anodes (HP alloys) are recommended to be installed in relatively high resistivity soil. Standard potential magnesium anodes (H-1 alloys) are ideal for average soil conditions where resistivity is under 20 .m.

Our bare magnesium anodes are available in a range of designs which are specifically crafted to offer different conductive properties and connection options to suit particular types of structures.

Hull anodes are designed to flush mount against the hulls of ships, dams, or tanks via built in steel straps, whereas drive-in anodes are designed to be driven into the ground to protect buried propane tanks or steel pylons.
